Avantika Rao is a California-based writer, educator and human rights attorney.  

She is a graduate of Wellesley College, the UC Davis School of Law and completed two years of study in India.  She has served as the head of the Asian Law Caucus's Employment Project and has years of experience servicing Spanish-speakers and trauma survivors.  She has thrice served as faculty for the UC Davis School of Law's King Hall Outreach Program, most recently teaching U.S. Legal Process. 

In 2011, Avantika was awarded a Jack W. Londen Award by the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the Bay Area for her "exemplary efforts utilizing impact litigation to protect and advance the civil rights of marginalized communities".  The award recognized her multi-year collaborative work on a landmark human trafficking case. 

Avantika's writings have been published in both India and the U.S.  Her study of Ganga River pollution and its effect on Banarasi women was excerpted in Guggenheim Fellow and Columbia Professor Alexander Stille's 2002 book "The Future of The Past".
